What is Suboxone?
Under DATA 2000, there is one opioid medication that has gained approval. Suboxone is the first opioid medication that has got such an approval. This medication comes without any side effects and is prescribed as an over the counter medicine for treating patients with opioid dependence.
Those being administered Suboxone needs to know that the primary ingredient in this is known as Buprenorphine.
Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist which means that when compared to the other full opioid agonists like oxycodone and heroin, the effects of it is limited. Suboxone also has an opioid antagonist called Naloxone.
It is this Naloxone in Suboxone that stops people from dissolving the same and injecting it. There is a definite way to use Suboxone. Suboxone is to be placed under the tongue. When the medicine is taken as per the directions, very little amount of Naloxone reaches the bloodstream. Hence, the patient just feels the effects of Buprenorphine. A patient addicted to full opioids might come up with withdrawal symptoms quickly in case Naloxone is injected. Taken as per the prescribed dosage, Suboxone assists in the following:
